Who we are
Folioscopio is an independent publishing house, which means that we cannot do everything we would like, and yet we have the freedom to publish the books we want and in our own way.

Although it was founded in 2021, it was created by three colleagues who have been in the publishing world for some time now. Adding up the various experiences in the sector of each of us, we have been frolicking among books for a whopping 75 years.

We have lived in the times, years ago, when this publishing world was a world in which the effort you put into bringing publishing projects forward was proportionally rewarded. Later came times when that effort had to be doubled to obtain half of the discrete joys. Now almost everything has changed: in efforts, results, reading formats, ways of making books known and buying and selling them.

Everything is taking on a dizzying pace, also in the world of publishing. Editorial news barely has time and opportunity to reach readers. So many important books that go unnoticed. We would like to practice slow publishing, pampering the entire process of creating each book and putting all our effort into ensuring that it finds its readers. Each of the books we publish will have its reason for being and we will care for it and support it as if it were our only title.

We will have to remind ourselves of this many times; it will be difficult for the wheel of haste not to drag us down. This project was also born as a personal commitment to reconcile ourselves with our own professional world and show ourselves that things can be done differently.

We are not pioneers, we are not the first publisher to do so, nor will we be the last, luckily.

Yes, there are many publishers already, many amazing, exciting projects. But that is the inexhaustible charm of reading on paper: there are still books to imagine, to make real, to discover. Books to see, to touch, to take shelter in. We like illustrated books. As children we learned to read guided by images and we are still enthusiastic about books in which words grow when supported by visual elements that help us to delve deeper into ideas. We believe that we can still discover new ways of telling the classics, new windows through which to discover art, history, nature, music, literature, cinema… Ideas. Discover new colors and new ways to marvel.

And fortunately, bookstores still exist. Bookstores on the streets, in neighborhoods, will continue to be a refuge where time could almost stand still. Unbeatable places to touch, see and read books. And talk about books with booksellers. We cannot imagine Folioscopio books without bookstores.
