This book demonstrates that paleographic study reveals that each manuscript possesses a unique story to tell, that each protagonist is inextricably linked to other characters and places that form part of a broader context capable of enriching our historiography. While the structure, in very general terms, does show certain similarities to the writings of Saint Teresa of Ávila, it is no coincidence that Catholic women in New Spain, in general, and in Puebla de los Ángeles, in particular, considered her work essential reading.
