We live in the era of Egyptomania, the era of the pyramids, tombs and mummies. The West is immersed in a popular phenomenon of commercial attraction around the Egyptian culture; and yet, we know very little about Egyptian thought for its own sake. In Egiptosophia, we are presented for the first time the possibility of approaching the heart of the Egyptian culture that so fascinated Greek travelers and philosophers. The work is divided into two major sections: the first part deals with the subtle reconstruction of Egyptian cosmology and its anthropology centered on the myth of Osiris. The objective is to define, as far as possible, the nature of the Egyptian sophia from three concepts: initiation, mystery and enlightenment. Here is a finding: the translógico model of thought. The second part has to do with a lucid reinterpretation of the well-known transit from Myth to the Logos, relating the Egyptian sophia with the Greek pre-Socratic, especially as regards Thales of Miletus. The central thesis is to show that the relevance of Egyptian thought on Greece is much greater than is normally assumed. The essay reveals the need to revise the conception of the myth and to do justice to the contributions of the Nile culture.
