Saki is the pen name of H. H. Munro (1870-1916), Scottish writer, short story writer, novelist and playwright, but above all master in the art of writing short stories. As Evelyn Waugh remarked, "Having written seven or eight masterpieces is a remarkable achievement." Munro was born in 1870 in Akyab, Burma (now Myanmar), but grew up in England. He worked as a journalist, and between 1902 and 1908 was a foreign correspondent in the Balkans, Russia and Paris. He died on November 14, 1916 in a trench near Beaumont-Hamel (France). His sense of humor, caustic and ironic, was highly appreciated by Jorge Luis Borges, who stands next to Kipling and Thackeray.
