Amrit, a young teenager, disappears from her home in the middle of the night. Although her absence is brief, she returns a changed person. The episode creates a deep rift that threatens to fracture her Sikh family of Punjabi origin.
Over the next two decades, we witness the evolution of Singapore's political and social landscape during the period from 1970 to 1990, while Amrit's family must confront societal shifts in attitudes regarding caste, youth culture, sex, gender roles, identity, and a sense of belonging to the community.
