The present work draws a coherent and orderly account of all the data collected from the apocryphal Gospels, a literature that has influenced throughout the centuries in liturgy, art, literature despite the severe prohibitions of some Fathers of the Church. The "lives" of Jesus, according to the extracanonical gospels, are counted from the first centuries of Christianity. Some of the writings -which are the exclusive basis of this study- go back to the second century of our era and they handle traditions that in some aspect competed in their day with the remaining books of the New Testament.
