Metaphysics, with Aristotle—who never knew the word—emerged as a peculiar way of thinking, turning against its own pre-Socratic and Platonic origins. Its consolidation rested on the critical examination of its earlier considerations: by posing questions in which, as Heidegger says, the inquirer becomes bound, metaphysics has sealed its controversial permanence with historical development. This book originated in the Colloquium "The Present of Metaphysics," and its texts, duly modified by their respective authors for publication, are a testament to the problematic presence of metaphysics. The main objective of this volume is to continue the discussion surrounding metaphysics, that peculiar way of thinking whose vitality will continue as long as that mysterious, prodigious, and dangerous flame of thought is not extinguished in human beings—as Kant suggests.
