The first Alcibiades reveals for the first time the precept of self-care in the whole of Plato's work, as Michel Foucault affirms. In this dialogue Socrates exhorts a young Alcibiades to know himself, but above all to take care of himself, to achieve virtue and eventually rule the Greek polis.
The translation that we present here was made in 1871 by Patricio de Azcárate, the first Spanish translator of Plato's works.
