This volume offers a framework to analyze, decode and judge the changes that have taken place in the historical conditions and in the social imaginary of post-industrial, post-colonial and post-communist societies as we enter the new millennium. New technologies are among the factors that most influence the restructuring of the contemporary social imaginary. The analyzes focus on the representations of corporeal subjects who are experiencing a broad cultural revaluation in specific social, cultural and political contexts of late postmodernity. The incarnation, subjectivity, sexuality and sexual difference are some of the key terms that are discussed in this book with special reference to the works of the philosophers Gilles Deleuze and Luce Irigaray.
Braidotti advocates the need to establish definitions of the subject as non-unitary and nomadic, which, however, do not suppress the notion of agency or responsibility. Feminist theory and practice offer the innovative and normative bases of this project: first, sexual differences as an asymmetric theory of power relations in the social and symbolic sphere; second, the politics of location or, in its epistemological version, of "localized knowledge" as a radical theory of responsibility; third, the specific issue of corporeization or corporeal materialism, as postructuralist feminist philosophers have elaborated.
