The most significant composer of galant music in the Americas, Ignacio Jerusalem (Lecce, Kingdom of Naples, 1707—Mexico City, Viceroyalty of New Spain, 1769) wrote over two hundred and fifty works for solo voices, chorus, and chamber orchestra during his tenure as chapel master of Mexico City Cathedral in the mid eighteenth century. As the inaugural publication in the series, this volume outlines the conceptual framework of the series as a whole, and offers an updated biography in the form of a chronological timeline, a newly developed list of Ignacio Jerusalem’s works, and a select bibliography and discography according to the state of knowledge in 2019.
