The history of feminism is not linear, but it is not “one” either. It is not said in the positivity of the petrified data that it sleeps waiting for a historian's gaze to encourage it. The time of feminism implies two or more time trajectories that intersect in the present time. It is customary to say that the present is a temporality on the run. Its meaning, its understanding, escapes the intention of the subjects themselves. However, it is with a vocation for the present – its bets, positions, policies and desires – with which the past is imagined and written. That is also the case for feminism, it is always an interested story. It is the sting of the present that makes the history of feminism move and it is there, in that movement, where other worlds are created.

It is precisely for this reason that Julieta Kirkwood (1936-1985) –as an interested historian and sociologist– enunciates her feminism in the present tense, even though part of her work has to do with narrating the history of feminism in Chile.
