Madame Calderón de la Barca commented in the mid-19th century that music was the sixth sense of Mexico. More than 150 years away, Mexican music is played, sung and is a reference of national identity in much of the world. From the creation of independent Mexico to the present day, music has been part of the cultural work of Mexican. Throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, it was disseminated through its graphic representation embodied in sheet music; first handwritten pieces that, perhaps once copied, passed from hand to hand.
