The questioning of universalist positions guides the course of philosophy in the 20th century. The problems arising from within and the criticism from abroad made these positions the center of multiple debates. These continue at the beginning of the 21st century. Paraphrasing Gadamer, it is about following universality as the guiding thread of hermeneutics. Likewise, following the hermeneutical indication that the question goes ahead, the following questions are formulated: What kind of universality does hermeneutics claim? How does it differ from the claims of universality? Is the unity of the proposal maintained? hermeneutics, if universality is abandoned? This leads to the appearance of a question, not only about universality but about the very meaning of hermeneutics, that is, which hermeneutics is the one that claims universality and what distinguishes it from other hermeneutics. This book explores the possible answers to these questions, reviewing the ontological turn, the hermeneutical experience, the hermeneutical problem and some central features of the debates on the universality of hermeneutics.
