For centuries, everything that has been valued as an artistic product has been crossed by the hierarchies and standards imposed by the patriarchal order; the figure of the artist, a melancholic genius, has been constructed based on a stereotype that is generally male, and who also possesses the “divine gift of creation”. Instead, women's productions have been relegated to the level of handicrafts, of popular ethnic arts, which have hardly been considered relevant as shapers of our symbolic universe. Francesca Gargallo highlights, with an exemplary tour within plastic arts, performance, theater, photography, cinema and letters, the creations made by women as a way of resisting and facing gender violence; as a process of liberation that strives to affirm their existence, even and despite the harassment and massacre that has plagued them throughout history.
