We Mexicans are children of one of the six oldest civilizations in humanity, but today we are undeniably a mestizo country like all the rest of the planet. Our mestizaje has been enriched with cultural elements from Europe, Africa, and Asia, but the foundation of this mestizaje is definitely represented by the ancestral peoples and cultures of Anahuac. This novel is the true story of the first family formed by a Mayan woman and a Spanish man and their three children, the nation's first mestizos, born of love and the meeting of the best of both civilizations. Gonzalo Guerrero was shipwrecked on the shores of Chetumal in 1511, became civilized with the Mayan culture, and married Zazil Há in the Mayan tradition. This first family would become the melting pot of the nation. Guerrero fought against the invaders and died fighting in defense of his family and the culture that reeducated him.
