In 1991, the case of the beating of Rodney King, an African-American, by the Los Angeles police became known. It was revealed that officials of the judicial system had the habit of using the acronym NHI to refer to police cases where blacks or Latinos were involved. NHI stands for "No Humans Involved." With this beginning, Sylvia Wynter writes a letter, a manifesto, in which she denounces the foundational racism in social structures. The question that runs through the text is Why? And the answer reveals the racist ontology that founded the West, placing it at the center of the scene. In the prologue, Federico Pita invites us to read Wynter's text as a weapon of combat. But not a weapon that serves to kill, but a weapon that is used to kill.
