Picasso's La mallorquina (1905) appears studied under new interpretive parameters. His figure emerges from the depths of the Mediterranean, as the result of a context influenced by Pompeian painting and by Homeric stories, among others.

C. Boncompte analyzes the portrait of a supposed woman from Mallorca, painted by Picasso in 1905, based on new interpretative parameters: the influence that Pompeian painting and the study of mythology had on the work of the man from Malaga before his famous trip to Gósol (1906) and even Les demoiselles d'Avignon (1907).

The findings made by the author invite the reader to travel, like Ulysses, between Mediterranean islands and ports until they find the personality of the mysterious woman painted by Picasso: a Homeric magician. His story is introduced by Dr. Lourdes Cirlot, professor at the University of Barcelona and specialist in contemporary art, and accompanied in postface by a recreation of the figure of Circe, inspiring of this Picassian work, by the hand of Dr. P. of Montaner - teacher, where they exist, in Mediterranean intricacies.
