In the months leading up to this terrible event, Ali had exchanged correspondence with a Dutch friend and editor, Oscar van Gelderen, about his semi-autobiographical novel; a narrative that plunges us into the first decade of the 21st century, halfway between New York, Tehran and Dallas. Sex, exile and rock & roll is a novel perfumed with excess and decadence of spirit. It tells the story of a group of Iranian musicians in their more tender twenties that runs along with the narrator himself, adept at the biorhythms imposed by the culture of adoption and unconditionally given to the pleasures offered by the American dream.
