It is a musical drama about the assassination of Russian revolutionary Leon Trotsky in Mexico in August 1940 and his relationship with Mexican artists and intellectuals of the 1930s, particularly painters Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, and David Alfaro Siqueiros. Based on this event, the libretto addresses the links between politics, art and crime that took place during the first half of the twentieth century, when numerous artists took up arms to participate in military actions and political attacks.
