
In this book, we address the economic, political, diplomatic, and security aspects that preoccupied the Trump administration in its relations with Latin America. Through his derogatory rhetoric and celebrity-like demeanor, he diminished and ridiculed relations with the region, using social media posts and press releases that ranged from propaganda to continue building the wall on the Mexican border and his anti-immigration policies, to his remarks referring to Central America as "shithole countries." His administration also displayed concern over the renegotiation of the most important Free Trade Agreement between the US and Mexico, NAFTA, and was deeply committed to the hybrid war against Venezuela, framed within the battle against communism in the region (read: the governments of Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua).
