This work was conceived in a perspective of biblical theology. Its title justifies the choice of words taken as mottoes of the articles, as well as how they have been treated. It has been ruled out everything that might give the work a tenor of an encyclopedia, so that the open ground, it gives prominence to all the major themes of Revelation in connection with the data from the history of religions and an indication of liturgical or doctrinal extension, the efforts of this work is to guide the reader through the tangle of ideas that emerge from the texts, opening horizons and roads. The mental and religious structure that dominates the intelligible content of the Bible comes up to model a common verbal expression. True that words vary over time, as in the language of the Bible and of men, but the brand of inspiration is that it affects, even beyond the ideas, the very words that expressed. It was possible to recognize a common language which expresses the revelation, and that to us has a close dependence on the language of the Septuagint, the Greek version of the Bible also translated, adapted, the Hebrew text of the Old Testament. This continuity implies, at least for proper theological meanings, a real technical language. This fact alone justifies the form of vocabulary given to the sketches of biblical theology that make up this book. It is not yet pure semantics, but an expressive language, weaving images and symbols, which raises the question of the value that this language can continue to have in a contemporary mental universe: - Can you advertise in this day the mystery of heaven with the same images used in the Bible, paradise and the heavenly spheres overlap, the wedding banquet? - Can you talk about the "wrath" of God? - What does it mean that Jesus ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God? The timeliness of questions like these justify a work as the Vocabulary of Biblical Theology - whose origins go back to actually writing a Missel written by the author in 1945 - has had such unanimous acceptance and widespread in its subsequent revisions and increases from 1965 to the present eighteenth edition.
