Irma Pineda is a writer, poet and translator of native Zapotec Juchitan, Oaxaca, Mexico. He studied BA in Communications and an MA in Education and Cultural Diversity. He has done artist residencies at the International Literary Translation Centre Banff Centre of the Arts in Alberta, Canada (2004) and in the House of Art Streets and Dreams in Chicago, United States (1998), as well as participate in key forums as the World Poetry Festival in Venezuela (2009); International Poetry Festival in Medellin, Colombia (2001); Congress Orality and Literature in Siena, Italy (2010); the Symposium on Indigenous Memory at the University of Bologna, Italy (2011) and the International Conference of Indian Writers in Ecuador (2011). He has been a fellow of the National Fund for Culture and the Arts (FONCA), programs of Writers in Indigenous Languages and Young Artists.
