Edward W. Soja is a professor at the University of California and the London School of Economics. His work has been mainly aimed at recognizing the radical novelty of the ways of inhabiting and experiencing space in large contemporary cities. These changes require, in his view, an equally radical revision of geographic tools and concepts that ends up giving a new centrality to the "spatial dimension" in the framework of social studies. E. Soja is also the most relevant figure in what has come to be called the Los Angeles School of Critical Urban Studies.
