Synopsis
The book, which until now remained unpublished in Spanish, began its journey in 1894 when the Irish playwright suggested to the publisher Arthur L. Humphreys that he ask his wife Constance for a selection of thoughts from his work under the title Oscariana. He possibly did it to give some satisfaction to the unfortunate wife, mother of her two children, with a captivating presence, enigmatic and severe face. The love affair between Constance and Oscar begins suddenly and ends stormily, becoming the elegant and distinguished fashionable couple, then the object of admiration and envy of many, in one more victim of Victorian double standards. Around then, the famous writer began his relationship with Lord Alfred Douglas. In January 1895, the first non-venal edition of Oscariana was published, with a print run of only fifty copies. But, before the world of letters took notice of it, the scandal caused by the arrest and trials of Oscar Wilde broke out, who was accused of "sodomy and serious indecency", eclipsing the success of the work, and the copies piled up in a warehouse. The book finally saw the light of day in 1910, including the two collections of aphorisms published during the poet's lifetime.
