Alice Thompson was born in Edinburgh. In addition to Justine, who in 1996 received ex aequo with Graham Swift the James Tait Black Memorial Award for Best First Work, she has published six other novels. Throughout her career, she has received grants from Creative Scotland and the Scottish Arts Council. Currently, she works as a Creative Writing teacher in her hometown.
