He has written poetry, essays, and articles. He has dedicated himself to translation, editing and teaching, both at the university (at the Autonomous University of Mexico City, at the UNAM Faculty of Philosophy and Letters) and at cultural foundations (Octavio Paz, for Mexican Literature) . He has obtained various awards, among which are the Xavier Villaurrutia in 2005 and the National Science and Arts in 2015. He was a fellow of the Guggenheim Foundation in 1978 and is part of the National System of Art Creators.
