Georges Perec (March 7, 1936 in Paris - March 3, 1982 in Ivry-sur-Seine) was a French novelist, filmmaker, documentalist, and essayist. He was a member of the Oulipo group. His written works include novels , plays , poems , essays, miscellaneous works , plays, collections of articles , illustrated books together with some painters , verbal and linguistic games. He also dabbled in film and music . He was a member of the Oulipo group from 1967 until his death , and bearer of the nouveau roman .
His work was based on experimentation, in certain formal limitations as a form of creation, and the explicit purpose of never repeating the same idea in two books. It has been translated into more than fifteen languages , and despite not being a writer read by multitudes , is often regarded as a cult author .
