Joseph Ratzinger born in Marktl am Inn in 1927 and was ordained priest in 1951. From 1953 to 1965 he served a busy teaching and from 1962 to 1965 participated in the Second Vatican Council as theological advisor. In 1977, Paul VI named him Archbishop of Munich and Freising and Cardinal next month.
