Mariano Pérez Gutiérrez, born in Pisón de Castrejón in 1932, began his musical studies early in Palencia. In 1956 he was awarded a scholarship by the Hon. Provincial Council of Palencia and moves to the Royal Superior Conservatory of Music of Madrid, where he graduates with the highest qualifications in Piano, Counterpoint and Fugue, Composition, Instrumentation and Organ under the direction of Molinar, Parody, Calés, Julio Gómez and Guridi , and obtains First Class Diploma and First Prize in Composition, Counterpoint and Fugue; He also won the National Prize of the Spanish Conservatories in 1965. A solid training endorses the great humanistic stature of Mariano Pérez: Doctor of Philosophy and Letters, (Art Section), Law Degree, National Primary School Teacher, Diploma in French for L'Aliance Française and the Catholic University of Paris. Then, he expands studies in Orchestra Conducting with Igor Markevitch, musicology of Musical Aesthetics, Gregorian Chanting, Paleography, Rhythmic and Modal Harmony at the Superior School of Sacred Music in Madrid. In Paris, he works with J. Chailley, of the Sorbonne University; with Dom Gayard, choir director of the Solesmes Abbey; and with Potiron and Le Guennant, from the University and Schola Cantorum of Paris, where he obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Gregorian Studies and the title of Magister Chori in Choral Direction. At the same time, he expanded his Composition studies with André Jolivet, of the National Conservatory of Paris. In Lisbon, he also works with Santiago Kastner.
