Born in San Gonzalo de Bahia, he finished his studies in Legal and Social Sciences at the Federal University of Bahia in 1964. He graduated in Sociology of Information and Communication at the Sorbonne University in Paris and is a university professor. Among his many publications, we can highlight the books Monopoly of Speech (5 editions) and La comunicación de lo grotesco (12 editions).
