Plaza y Valdés celebrates 20 years bringing knowledge and culture with a vision of the future to a wide network of bookstores, libraries, international book fairs, academic, cultural forums, educational and research centers.

PyV, the only Spanish-American publishing house listed in the Publications Forum of the European Union, has become an international house with representatives in different Latin American countries and an office in Spain.

Twenty years after his birth, he has an editorial fund of more than 1,500 titles in the social sciences and humanities, the result of research by Mexican and foreign academics attached to the main institutions of higher education, such as the National Autonomous University of Mexico, Autonomous Metropolitan University. , National Pedagogical, Ibero-American, La Salle, Anáhuac, Las Américas and the National Polytechnic Institute.

Likewise, he has published books with El Colegio de la Frontera Norte, the Technological Institute of Superior Studies of the West, the universities of Quintana Roo, Guadalajara, the autonomous communities of Tamaulipas, Coahuila and Zacatecas.

He has also shared credits with the United Nations, International Labor Organization and The United Nations Children´s Found. International co-publishers include, among others: the prestigious International Development Research Center of Canada; the House of Lords of Great Britain; and, in Spain, with the Higher Council for Scientific Research, the University of Granada and the Rey Juan Carlos, Complutense and Carlos III universities in Madrid.

Plaza y Valdés' extensive experience dates back to 1987 when it opened its doors in Mexico City. In 1992 he redefined his editorial project to channel it exclusively to the edition of academic works, discarding other types of publications of a commercial nature.

Since then, he has participated in the organization of forums and academic congresses: Lasa, United States (1994), Cuba (1998), Warsaw (2000), Porto Alegre World Social Forum (2000), Sustainability and Development Forum in Johannesburg; Guatemala (2002), Amsterdam (2003), Salamanca (2003) or Madrid (2007); at the International Congress of Rectors held in Sydney, Australia, where it was the only participating Latin American publisher; and of course at the main international book fairs.

He has sponsored multiple activities to spread the reading. In 1991 he launched the “Say yes to reading” campaign, with the publication of classic stories at a low price. Later it launched the promotion "Pay what you can"; convened the National Contest "The language of young people", which obtained more than a thousand participating works from different regions of the Mexican Republic, and edited fascicles to teach Nahuatl and other indigenous languages.

On the occasion of the V Centennial of America, he organized various cultural activities, such as a Meeting of Cultural Magazines from Mexico and Spain, and invited representatives of the publishing industry to discuss the challenges of editorial policy facing the new millennium.

Starting in April 2008, Plaza y Valdés will start its 20th anniversary celebrations, through various activities and special promotions, for at least 20 months. For example, you will give a purchase of each PyV book with a compact disc from the great classical music composers.

At the same time, it will carry out a campaign to donate books to public libraries and will hold Scientific Dissemination Days in which Mexican and foreign academics will participate, and during which the first Critical Dictionary of Social Sciences will be presented, a landmark work by Plaza and Valdés.
