Publicacions de la Universitat de València (PUV) is the publishing arm of the University of Valencia. Its mission is to promote, through the production and dissemination of books, journals, and digital publications. The primary objective of the Publications Service is, first and foremost, to disseminate the broadest possible scientific and intellectual output generated at the University of Valencia, as well as relevant works in various fields of knowledge by authors from other universities or countries, through translation, direct commissions, or the acceptance of editorial proposals. Its aim is to foster public dissemination and communication of scientific ideas, academic work, and culture in the broadest sense within the dual linguistic sphere of the University of Valencia. The editorial policy seeks to appropriately combine in-house and high-quality external publications, thereby enhancing the prestige of the publishing catalog.

Through its various collections, the Publications Service covers a wide range of needs. Firstly, there are those related to teaching, through the publication of textbooks and educational materials adapted to different subjects and courses. A second area comprises the publication of a significant portion of the research carried out at the University. This also includes the publication of academic journals, which report on the results of ongoing research.

The social impact of the various fields of knowledge developed within the university setting has also driven the publication of several collections aimed at a more general audience (readers with a mid-to-high level of education, university students and professors, secondary school teachers, etc.), based on a rigorous concept of cultural dissemination characteristic of the institution that promotes them. In addition to these collections, and as another facet of cultural dissemination, journals of thought and culture are published, with the aim of enhancing the broader reach of teaching and research activities.

Furthermore, the publication of texts related to more strictly institutional activities (commemorative books, those issued on the occasion of the awarding of honorary doctorates or the University Medal, opening lectures for the academic year) occupies a prominent place, as do works that address historical and cultural aspects of the university.

The desire to integrate into the professional community and strengthen social ties has led to the development of a co-publishing policy, with the aim of increasing visibility and dissemination and maintaining the best possible relationships with private publishers. In this regard, it is worth highlighting the ongoing co-editions with Cátedra (the "Feminisms" collection), Bromera ("Without Borders"), Afers ("The World of Nations"), and Publicacions de l’Abadia de Montserrat ("Sanchis Guarner Library"), as well as co-editions with other university presses: "Global Village," with the Autonomous University of Barcelona, ​​the Jaume I University of Castellón, and Pompeu Fabra University; "Unpublished Documents of Charles V," with the University of Murcia; and the "Library of Morisco Studies," with the University of Granada Press and the University of Zaragoza Press.

As an innovative field of work, the area of ​​electronic publishing stands out, encompassing both books and magazines. This involves making the most of current information technologies and online publishing capabilities, which in any case presuppose an editorial process (selection of manuscripts, text processing, etc.).

Bearing these general guidelines in mind, the Publications Service receives numerous manuscripts annually for evaluation, submitted by the University's own faculty, as well as by other institutions and individuals. Therefore, at the suggestion of the Service's Director, the Editorial Board approved a series of priorities for selecting books for publication:

• Institutional books (Cinc Segles, Honoris Causa, etc.)
• Teaching books
• Research books (with a clear national and international impact)
• Books for the various collections currently maintained by the Service, which have a clear social impact (at least two new titles each year to maintain the collections)
• Books resulting from various agreements with other institutions and with departments, faculties, services, and chairs of the University (Joan Fuster Chair, Alfons Cucó Chair of European Political Thought, Institute of Local Development, Valencian Language Academy, etc.) Institut d’Estudis Catalans, Ciutat d’Alzira premis, Micalet premis, etc.)

Other materials, such as:

• Doctoral theses (since by law they must be • Works deposited in the University Repository), Master's Theses and Bachelor's Theses.

• Conference proceedings
• Reports, educational innovation studies, etc.

• Works of literary creation (except for collaborative agreements)

This type of material may only be published in exceptional cases and when external funding for publishing costs is available. Even then, for consideration, manuscripts must be submitted through the PUV platform and will undergo the evaluation process determined by the publisher.

Conditions for publication in repositories
The editorial policy of Publicacions de la Universitat de València regarding the deposit of materials published by PUV in institutional repositories is as follows:

In the case of edited volumes, authors may deposit the post-print version of their article or book chapter in open access six months after the official publication of the complete volume.

In the case of individual monographs, authors may deposit the "post-print" version of their book in open access 12 months after the official publication.
