Conceived as a parody of the Ur-myth and an allegory of the Cold War in the style of a campus novel, Giles the Goat-Boy is a prodigious madness full of humor and disenchantment, a complex and carnivalesque text, ambitious and fun where the mythological, the theological, the political and the academic are (con)fused, also in the lexicon. Thus, the universe is a University; the Final Judgement, the feared Final Exam; and Giles, a young man raised by goats, the hero destined to become Grand Tutor, or spiritual leader, of the College of New Tammany and Grand Master of the Western Campus, the only one capable of penetrating enemy territory and deprogramming the monstrous computer ORDACO, an intricate system capable of simulating any human activity: calculation, sexual impulse, emotions... Will he succeed?
