To the artists and visitors: all invisible and all blind to the absence of the female voice and experience. Why does the Museo Nacional del Prado ignore women? Frame by frame, this book reviews the patriarchal legacy that has survived to this day, although today we point it out as unjustifiable and reject any practice that widens the gap between men and women.
This is not a history of traditional art: it is a guide against the absences, humiliations, euphemisms, silences and distortions that have made half of the population disappear, with violence buried and in sight. And this is also a story against blindness, a narrative about the political and social conditions that determine artistic creation and privilege them over them. It is time, in the face of the rise of fascism, for museums to assume their responsibilities and move on to a practice of critical thinking, and refuse to take for granted the framework of contempt and inequality.
