Tarantula was written in 1966, but it did not see the light of day until 1971. In the meantime, different pirated copies circulated that strengthened the myth surrounding this unclassifiable book. 'Tarántula' combines lyrics and prose in an exercise close to automatic writing and is perfectly in tune with the moment Dylan writes it, which is also the high point of Ginsberg, Kerouac and Burroghs, the great names of the beat generation. The author has freed himself from his folk origins, has embraced rock and is giving free rein to a much more spontaneous and transgressive imaginary; to the point that this book was considered the best vehicle to get started with the Bob Dylan that emerged after the release of his album 'Highway 61 Revisited'.
