He is a regular contributor to The New Yorker and teaches at various schools in the world. Travels widely to cover all kinds of conflicts and has been called "the herededo Kapuscinski ." He has developed his own style in how to write profiles of people like Fidel Castro , Che Guevara , Augusto Pinochet , King Juan Carlos I of Spain and Saddam Hussein. He has published , among others, Che Guevara. A Revolutionary Life ; The dictator , demons and other chronic ; and the fall of Baghdad , with which he won the Reporters World Award 2005.
