Each generation, in each historical period, has had to struggle with its own version of its beauty myth and this myth is fragmented, resignified and multiplied in unexpected ways. This title provides a broad overview of these new beauty myths. It seeks to make visible the problems related to faces, hair, clothing, exercise, diets and other gender technologies that are more current than ever in today's world. Beauty practices articulate themes and fundamental issues not only for history and anthropology, but for a transdisciplinary understanding of contemporary societies.
